A Closer Look into Dynamics SL 2015 Web Apps
Posted by Donna Krizik on October 29, 2014
We are delighted that Dynamics SL 2015 is here. Not only that, Web Apps 2015 is also available and has so many great new updates. I recently watched Jeff Suwyn’s presentation on Web Apps 2015 and got a nice look into all the new features and how to use them. It was all so interesting I had to share. I am amazed at how much functionality this application provides in the palm of your hands and in the field
Why Web Apps?
For starters, Microsoft has gotten rid of Business Portal. Why? Microsoft wanted to make sure users had the ability to access Dynamics SL remotely. With Business Portal, remotely meant on a desktop or laptop and that was about it. Now with Web Apps, you can access Dynamics SL out in the field via your smart phone or tablet. Giving you the ability to view and approve project time entry, track project resources and much more. Take a look.
What can I do in Web Apps?
Delegations: Let’s say you will be attending a conference next week, or even better, you’ll be on vacation! Although you will be sipping piña coladas somewhere, the company still needs to function. While you wait to board your plane, pick up your mobile device and give delegations to other team members. For example, give approval access to another staff member so that project budgets, project expenses and project timecards still get approved while you are out.
Approvals: Speaking of approvals, you may not be on vacation and just away from the office for the day. No problem. On the Approval screen you will see that you have access to Document Approvals and Line Approvals. Over to the right you will see a notification in red letting you know you have some approvals available.
Document Approvals: Once you are in approvals, you can then select the Document Approvals tab. Here you can approve time and expense sheets, project invoices and budget revisions. In this image below you will see there is one Budget Revision available. You then have the option to Approve, Reject or Forward the revision, all from your mobile device.
Project Maintenance: You can also maintain all your projects through Web Apps. All projects assigned to you will be listed. You can then select the project you want to make edits to and get to work. Just that fast.
Accounts Payable: Let’s say you needed to review all accounts payable for the last week. You can easily pull up the Accounts Payable window and select if you want them listed by batch number, company ID, etc.
You can also export your Accounts Payable report to Excel, as long as you have Excel installed on your mobile device.
As you can see, the functionality of Web Apps is almost identical to what you can do in Dynamics SL via your computer in your office. Web Apps gives you the flexibility to maintain your projects even out in the field, saving you time and money.
All the latest features that have been added to Dynamics SL 2015 Web Apps will only be available in Web Apps 2015. These features will not be available for the Dynamics SL 2011 Web Apps version.
