CRM Guru and Crestwood Employee – Shawn Stutzman

Meet Shawn, he’s been with Crestwood Associates for almost 2 years now.  He has a lengthy background in Dynamics CRM and also specializes in integrating CRM with Dynamics GP & SL.  I got the chance to talk with Shawn – he is super friendly and talkative.  I really enjoyed our conversations around CRM and life in general.

What’s your favorite part of your job?
I most enjoy projects where I get to help the customer better understand their own business processes and then design CRM around those requirements.  To make CRM a system that works the way they do.
I love it when I get a customer who really knows what they want to do in CRM and they are committed to the end game.  It’s different with Dynamics GP or SL as those systems are business critical – accounting needs, but with CRM you see lower adoption rates because people don’t truly know what they want out of the system.  The one thing I wish I could tell everyone about CRM is to have a good design in mind when starting to think about implementing Dynamics CRM.

What’s your favorite new feature in CRM?
I’d have to say I’m most excited about the new interface – it’s a lot cleaner and people don’t get confused as much because there aren’t all those popup windows.  The user experience has improved greatly with the navigation redesign.

Where are you from?
I currently live in Northern Indiana with my wife and 3 kids.  I was born in Nairobi, Kenya and then grew up in the state of Oregon.

What do you do when you’re not doing CRM?
I spend as much time as possible outdoors – I love to fish, garden, mountain bike, canoe, run and do Adventure Racing.

What’s Adventure Racing?
It’s a combination of 2 or more endurance disciplines, like mountain biking and running – but it also typically involves orienteering, which makes it like a topic graphical race, you need to find points on a map during the course of the event.
