How to make Microsoft Dynamics CRM work with Windows 10

Getting errors when trying to install the CRM for Outlook Client?

Does Microsoft Dynamics CRM work with Windows 10?

With the recent release of Windows 10 one question that we have heard recently is “does the CRM client work correctly under Windows 10?”

At first glance the answer is no.  The installation process only proceeds to a certain point then fails.

After some research on this, we discovered that Microsoft's is currently recommending that people "Wait for the next roll up due after Office 2016"

There is a manual process that bypasses the installer and the errors to make your CRM work on Windows 10.

This has been verified on the outlook client for CRM 2011, CRM 2013.  The Dynamics CRM 2015 client was updated to work correctly with Windows 10, so these steps are no longer needed

Manual process for making Dynamics CRM work with Windows 10

1Install Windows 10

2Enable the following Windows Feature's

  • .net 3.5 and 4.6
  • Windows Identity Foundation 3.5

3Install the appropriate version of Microsoft Office (x86 2013, 64-bit)

4Manually Download the CRM client pre-req's

5Install the pre-req’s [there are more files listed in the links above, but these come pre-installed with Win 10, so you don't need them]

  • SSCERuntime_1033_x86.msi (SQL Compact Edition x64)
  • SSCERuntime_1033_x64.msi (SQL Compact Edition x64)
  • msoidcli_1033_64.msi (Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant)
  • wllogin_64.msi (Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant)
  • ReportViewer.exe (ReportViewer 2010 ver10.0.30319)

6Extract the CRM Install files (CRM2011-Client-ENU-i386.exe /extract:c:\mypath)

7Create the log file folder structure (MD C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSCRM\Logs)

8Install Error reporting

			msiexec /i "C:\mypath\DW\DW20Shared.msi" /LV* "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSCRM\Logs\watson.log" /qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress APPGUID={0C524D20-0409-0050-8A9E-0C4C490E4E54} REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vomus

9Start the main CRM install

			msiexec /i "C:\mypath\Client.msi" INSTALLLEVEL="3" INSTALLTYPE="INSTALL" SOURCEFOLDER="C:\mypath" TARGETDIR="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics CRM" INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics CRM" /l+ "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSCRM\Logs\crm50clientmsi.log" LOGFILE="C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSCRM\Logs\crm50clientmsi.log" ALLOWRUN="1" REBOOT=ReallySuppress NOSELECTION=1
