Where are my Dynamics CRM 2013 Volume License Keys?

Here’s a recent scenario from the Crestwood CRM Support Team.  We thought we should share in case you are having the same issue. 

We got a call from a customer:

“I am a Microsoft Volume License customer and I bought Dynamics CRM 2013 but when I log into my Microsoft CustomerSource portal, I don’t see my license keys for Dynamics CRM 2013.  I tried getting in touch with someone through CustomerSource, but it’s horrible for that.  Please help!”

Here’s the scoop:

This sometimes happens when you purchase Dynamics CRM through a Volume License agreement.  With volume licensing, you are supposed to download the installation media from the Volume License site and it will have the key already in it. 

How do I know if I am a Volume License customer?

If you are wondering if you are a Volume License customer, you can check on CustomerSource under your account summary area (drop down arrow near the login name in the upper right corner of your screen) or ask your Microsoft Partner.

So what do I do – I still need the key?

If you need the key, there is a way to get it.  The Dynamics CRM 2013 license key for Volume Licensing customers is in the installation files in a file called license.txt

To get to it, download the installation ISO from Microsoft, burned it to a DVD or mount the ISO as a drive, then explore the files and find the license.txt file.  Open the file with Notepad and you will get the product key which can be updated in the CRM deployment manager.
