Why is Microsoft making these email security changes?

Microsoft has millions of customers who have Basic Authentication enabled in their tenant but only use Modern Authentication. Unfortunately, many of them don’t know Basic is enabled and the risks it presents, so Microsoft will help secure their data by turning it off.

During the next few months, Microsoft may temporarily (less than one day) disable ‘basic authentication’ on your system if you are using Office 365 for your mail. This is also known as Exchange in the cloud.

The intent of this interruption to the mail system is to provide a notification that this change is coming on October 1, 2022, so that all clients can be warned in advance and take steps to be prepared. Here are some helpful articles for you to review with your IT team.
